Ontario Police Department has been awarded a $765,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for a year-long program of special enforcements and public awareness efforts to prevent traffic related deaths and injuries. Ontario Police Department will use the funding as part of the city’s ongoing commitment to keep our roadways safe and improve the quality of life through both enforcement and education.

On October 27, 2017, the Ontario Police Department took custody of Dalen Ware (39 years old), from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department. Ware had been arrested at his home in Laveen, Arizona for the murder of Julia Jacobson. He remained in custody at the Maricopa County Jail while the extradition process was completed.

Ware was booked at the West Valley Detention Center in San Bernardino County, for PC 187(a), the unlawful killing of a human being with malice aforethought.

An arraignment date has not yet been set.

Ontario Police have arrested a 13-year-old male who pointed a gun at a teacher at De Anza Middle School today.

Police were notified at approximately 1:00pm of an armed suspect running through the field of De Anza Middle School located at 1450 S. Sultana Ave.

The caller stated that a subject wearing a “Scream” Halloween costume just ran through the school campus carrying a handgun. While on the campus, the suspect pointed the handgun at a teacher who was in a class with students.

The City of Ontario is pleased to announce the next citywide yard (garage) sale weekend is November 3, 4, and 5, 2017 (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). If rainy conditions exist on that Friday or Saturday, an alternate yard sale may be held on November 10, 11, and 12, 2017 (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). This will be the last citywide yard sale for 2017. The first yard sale weekend of 2018 will be February 2, 3 and 4.

On Friday, October 13, 2017, the Ontario Police Department arrested Dalen Ware for the murder of Julia Jacobson.

Ms. Jacobson was originally reported as a missing person on September 2, 2017, to the San Diego Police Department. Investigators from the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) conducted an extensive search for Ms. Jacobson, which eventually led them to the City of Ontario. After being briefed by SDPD, Detectives from the Ontario Police Department took over as lead agency in the investigation.
