Ontario, CA (March 13, 2018) – The City of Ontario mourns the loss of Development Director Hassan Haghani who passed away unexpectedly this week. Haghani served as Development Director for the City of Ontario since July of 2017. The Ontario Police Department would like to wish its Baker to Vegas Running Team strong runs with lightning fast speed.

On Saturday afternoon, March 17, 2018, 20 sworn officers (ranging from Police Officer to Lieutenant), 5 alternates and a support crew of 30 volunteers will participate in the ultimate relay race of 20 legs spanning 120 miles. The race will begin in Baker, California and stretch across challenging desert terrain until culminating in a high-energy finish line set in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ontario Police Officers conducted shoulder tap operations at Circle K located at 405 N. Vineyard Avenue, AM/PM located at 2195 S. Haven Avenue, 7-Eleven located at 3490 E. Jurupa Street, Mountain Mission Liquor located at 830 S. Mountain Avenue, Mountain Market and Liquor located at 1035 W. Philadelphia Street, Andy’s Market located at 1245 N. Grove Avenue, and Schiro’s Liquor Store located at 410 E. Holt Boulevard.

Ontario Police Department will step up Bike & Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Operations on March 12, 2018 with focused enforcement on collision causing factors involving motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists.

The department has mapped out locations over the past three years where pedestrian and bike collisions have occurred along with the violations that led to those crashes. Extra officers will be on duty patrolling areas where bike and pedestrian traffic and crashes occur in an effort to lower deaths and injuries.

Police received information late Wednesday night regarding the battering of a duck by a young man. The abuse, which depicted the suspect using a golf club to strike a duck at the Whispering Lakes Golf Course in the City of Ontario, was captured on video and shared via social media.

Ontario Police immediately launched an investigation into the incident, which lead them to identify a 16-year-old male, believed to be responsible for the abuse of the duck. The remains of the duck were found.
