The City of Ontario is partnering with its residents to combat illegal fireworks in the community, and will host a fireworks takeback event on Saturday, June 19.
 
From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day, residents can drop off fireworks at Fire Station 3, 1408 E. Francis St. Drop offs can be done anonymously.
 
The abatement event comes two weeks before the Fourth of July and three months after a fireworks explosion killed two people and caused millions of dollars of damage to an Ontario neighborhood.

The City of Ontario has secured more than $35 million in funding for energy infrastructure improvements–an infrastructure renewal program that is projected to save the City more than $75 million over the life of its new equipment.

To pay for the project, Ontario leveraged funds from several sources, including the California Energy Commission Energy Conservation Assistance Act (ECAA), Southern California Edison utility rebates, California Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP) and a tax-exempt municipal lease at historically low interest rates. The City of Ontario announced that it is moving forward with a citywide infrastructure renewal program that improves safety, efficiency and connectivity all while saving $75 million in utility and operating costs over the life of the new equipment. Aptly named “Smart Ontario,” this initiative will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 10,000 tons annually. This is equivalent to powering 1,322 Ontario homes, removing 1,850 cars from the road and preserving more than 263,000 trees from deforestation each year.

On May 22, 2021, the Ontario Police Department conducted a Decoy Shoulder Tap Operation. This grant funded operation targets adults who purchase alcohol for people less than 21 years of age. The Ontario Police Department regularly conducts compliance checks citywide to reduce the availability of alcohol to minors. Statistics have shown that young people under the age of 21 have a higher rate of drunken driving fatalities than the general adult population.

The Ontario Police Department encourages the public to wear a seat belt and keep children secured in child safety seats.

This year’s Click it or Ticket campaign is from May 24-June 6. During this time, the Ontario Police Department will actively look for drivers and passengers who are not wearing a seat belt. This includes drivers who do not secure children in child safety seats.
