Ontario earns federal funding to purchase EV Chargers and support the electrification of the City’s fleet

The City of Ontario has been awarded $220,330 in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to purchase EV Chargers as part of the City’s commitment to electrifying its fleet of vehicles.

The money, from DOE’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program, will be used to purchase six Level 2 EV Chargers and two Fast EV Chargers for the City’s Public Works Yard on South Bon View Boulevard. Currently, the Public Works Yard has approximately 250 parking spaces with only two Level 2 chargers for public use and none for city fleet.

Increasing the number of all-electric city vehicles is foundational to Ontario’s commitment to a sustainable transportation system that enhances quality of life and elevates even further the City’s role as the premier community in the Inland Empire. Other investments include the West Valley Connector zero-emission bus rapid transit system, currently under development; the nearly completed expansion of the nearby Interstate 10 Freeway to include Express Lanes; nearly 200 public charging stations throughout the City; the recent acquisition of and planned improvements to historic Euclid Avenue; enhanced connectivity to Ontario International Airport; and the redevelopment of downtown into a vibrant and connected living, working and learning environment.
