Every year, the Summer at Ontario City Library reading program offers free engaging activities and prizes for program participants of all ages. From June 1, 2021 through July 9, 2021 participants of all ages can register for the reading program online at ontarioca.beanstack.org or at the library and can start tracking their progress, write book reviews and receive rewards. In addition to fun prizes, keeping children reading during the school break helps combat “summer slide” — the tendency for kids to lose academic progress from the previous school year. Adults can take advantage of the program to reap the many benefits of reading themselves, including lowering stress and improving vocabulary and memory.
The Ontario City Library is a one-stop shop for checking out books and collecting prizes for the reading program. On the way out, adults can take a Pick-Up & Go craft—premade kits that include instructions and materials to complete a craft from the comfort of home. The fun does not have to end after a library visit! Entertaining virtual programs are also available, including Noteworthy Puppets Presents the Three Little Pigs on June 9, 2021 at 6 PM and a Magic Show with Brettso the Great on June 23, 2021 at 6 PM. Both events will stream live on the Ontario Community Life & Culture Facebook page @CityofOntarioCLC.
