The Ontario Police Department, in partnership with the Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), are taking an active approach on educating employees of licensed liquor locations.
The Ontario Police Department has received funding from the Alcoholic Beverage Control’s Grant Assistance Program (GAP) to conduct educational inspections. This program is referred to as IMPACT inspections. IMPACT is designed to educate employees and owners of licensed liquor locations about the legalities and regulations associated with owning and operating an alcohol licensed business.
IMPACT, which is an acronym for Informed Merchants Preventing Alcohol-Related Crime Tendencies, is a program that was developed in 1984 as a way to deter and prevent crime associated with liquor licensed locations. The program allows officers to point out potential problems at the business. Some potential problems found during an IMPACT inspection includes contaminated alcohol (commonly refered to as buggy bottles), drug paraphanelia, improper signage and illegal alcohol sales. This program allows the business adequate time to correct the problems, which helps to increase public safety.
This year, the Ontario Police Department, assisted by ABC, has performed IMPACT Inspections on 126 licensed businesses throughout the City of Ontario.
The Ontario Police Department will continue conducting IMPACT Inspections city-wide at alcohol licensed restaurants, hotels, bars, grocery, liquor and convenient stores.
