Ontario Police are investigating a shooting that led to the death of a 42-year-old man in the 13000 block of South Ontario Avenue, in the City of Ontario.
Police were called to the scene of the shooting early this morning at approximately 12:04 AM. Upon arrival, the police helicopter observed a male holding a firearm at the location. The male then shot the victim multiple times.
The Ontario Fire Department responded and provided medical treatment to the victim at the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The suspect was located on the property hiding inside a trailer. The suspect was taken into custody with the use of a police service dog. Ontario Police Detectives later recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the murder.
Jose Lopez will be booked at the West Valley Detention Center on charges of murder.
The investigation has yet to identify a motive for the shooting.
The victim’s identity will not be released until notification from the San Bernardino County Coroner’s office is complete.
