The Ontario City Library was awarded a grant from the California State Library for $71,000 to pilot an early learning initiative for young children and their parents and caregivers. The initiative, Little Minds, Big Futures, will bring library staff to high-traffic neighborhood areas to provide services and resources to families with young children in the form of pop-up programs that will expand access to early childhood learning opportunities. These programs will support parents and caregivers as their child’s first teacher providing exposure to early childhood learning activities, expert led sessions and raise early childhood development and school readiness awareness in the community.
Little Minds, Big Futures is the next step in the City’s efforts in early childhood learning and education allowing staff to move beyond traditional library or community center walls and meet community members in their own neighborhoods. The Ontario City Library is excited for the opportunity to expand services to the youngest community members in Ontario through this grant. Funding is received from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.
