Improving Motorcycle Safety Aim of Ontario Police Department Operation

The Ontario Police Department is joining law enforcement statewide and across the United States in the National Motorcycle safety awareness month special enforcement operations. Ontario, CA – Officers from the Ontario Police Department’s DUI Enforcement Team will be deploying this weekend to stop and arrest alcohol and drug-impaired drivers in the department’s ongoing traffic safety campaign. DUI Saturation Patrols will deploy on Saturday, April 29, 2017 between the hours of 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. in areas with high frequencies of DUI collisions and / or arrest.

The Ontario Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint on April 28, 2017, at an undisclosed location within the city limits between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to  20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely.

Detectives are investigating what led up to an armed man entering a Stater Brothers store in Ontario.

On April 9, 2017 at approximately 10:44 PM, Ontario Police Officers were involved in a shooting that occurred at Stater Bros., located at 1939 E Fourth St, in the City of Ontario.

Officers were responding to a man armed with a gun inside the store. Officers confronted the armed suspect; at which time an officer involved shooting occurred. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting.

No employees, customers, or officers were injured.
