The Ontario Police Department will be conducting a bicycle safety enforcement operation July 22, 2019 through July 31, 2019 aimed at educating drivers and bicyclists on using roadways safely.

Officers will be looking for violations made by drivers and bicyclists, like failing to yield, speeding, improper turning, riding a bike on the wrong side of the road, not complying with stops and signals, or any other dangerous violation.

The Ontario Police Department would like to remind residents that possession and/or ignition of fireworks within city limits is illegal.

With the celebration of Independence Day just around the corner, reports of fireworks are already coming in and are increasing daily. Calls for service often include noise complaints, property damage reports, injury reports and lost or injured pets. Last year, our Police Dispatch Center received 376 firework related calls for service in the 10 days leading up to July 4th.

The Safe Return Program is a confidential registry developed by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department designed to reunite lost people with their loved ones. The program is a database for people who have developmental or medical disabilities which increase their risk of becoming lost. It is designed for people who struggle with conditions such as Alzheimer’s, Autism, Dementia, Down Syndrome, and other developmental disorders.

No officers were injured in the collision. All suspects were taken into custody.

On June 12, 2019 at 1:19 pm, Ontario Police Officers responded to a call of a residential burglary in the 2700 block of South Homes Avenue.

As officers arrived in the area, they located a red convertible sedan fleeing the area. The suspect failed to stop for the police and led officers on a pursuit in which he endangered motorists by driving westbound on SR60 Freeway in the eastbound lanes. Ontario Police have arrested two suspects in connection to a shooting that occurred in the 600 block of East Francis Street, on May 29, 2019.

At approximately 1643 hours, Juan Chavez and Anthony Sandoval drove to a store in the 600 block of East Francis Street. Chavez exited the store and attempted to steal an unattended bicycle. The 13-year-old owner of the bicycle confronted Chavez outside the store. As Sandoval and Chavez drove away, they fired a round towards the 13-year-old victim.
